Adam Critchley

Adam has lived and trained in the North East since 1996 and currently lives in Newcastle upon Tyne with his wife and three children. He is a Consultant Oncoplastic Breast Surgeon at the Royal Victoria Infirmary, Newcastle upon Tyne since 2013 having graduated from the University of Newcastle in 2001 with Distinction. He was awarded the prestigious National Oncoplastic Breast TIG fellowship in 2011-12 in Sheffield, UK, prior to starting his consultant post. He was the Head of Department for the RVI Breast Unit from 2020-2023, one of the largest breast screening and training centres in the region and 12th highest-volume breast cancer unit in the UK. He is currently the Breast Multi-Disciplinary Team Lead for the unit.

Adam has treated over 2000 breast cancers in his career and currently treats around 150 breast cancers a year. He has extensive experience in cosmetic breast surgery, treating private patients at the Nuffield Hospital, Jesmond since 2016. He has over 200 5-Star patient reviews on the Doctify Platform, being the first recipient of the ‘Doctifier of the Month’ award nationally and also the ‘Outstanding Patient Experience’ Badge, only awarded to the top 10% of clinicians on Doctify in terms of patient reviews. Adam places huge importance on patient experience and safe, high-quality outcomes with low complication rates.

Adam is a recognised educator and is committed to training the next generation of breast cancer and aesthetic surgeons. He is Course Director for the Association of Breast Surgery Level 1 Oncoplastic Breast Course and Deputy Course Director for the National Oncoplastic Fellowship. He trains regional, national and international fellows. He is an Educational Supervisor to trainees at all levels and a mentor to medical students.

Adam is a research active clinician including nationally funded (NIHR) clinical trials. He has 42 publications in peer reviewed journals with over 600 citations and written several book chapters.

Adam is well regarded by his peers and patients for his kind, caring and honest nature. He is approachable and is able to explain complex issues in an understandable way. He wants his patients to feel valued, listened to and delighted with their surgical results.
